Responsibility for: No direct reports or budgets

Purpose of Post
To optimise plant reliability, safety and efficiency for all assets across the refinery by providing medium to long term engineering support within the discipline of expertise.

Roles and Responsibilities
• Provides long term instrument/control reliability engineering service to the refinery; liaising closely with other engineering specialists. Identifies, initiates and manages the implementation of reliability driven improvement projects for the area.
• Participates in, and leads when appropriate, the Instrument & Control Functional Work Group (FWG) activities. As a member of the FWG, is responsible for developing, implementing and optimising area specific (and refinery wide) Equipment Maintenance Strategies (EMS).
• Supports the Team Leader in identifying and maintaining the instrument & control equipment related Coryton Engineering Standards.
• Compiles and analyses area related measures and key performance indicators (KPI’s) as required.
• Interprets maintenance performance and reliability data in order to identify and scope area specific (and refinery wide) improvement programmes. Supports the Area Engineers by delivering long term solutions to improve equipment economics.
• Supports the Instrument Area Engineers in representing the instrument and control discipline with respect to project scoping and commissioning in liaison with Projects Group as appropriate.
• Represents Coryton interests in Group wide networks and relevant industry specific technical bodies and forums as required.
• Supports the training and development of area craftsmen/technicians, specifically with respect to providing knowledge and information to maximise craft utilisation and skills.
• Supports the training and development of area operating crews, specifically with respect to plant operating and basic care requirements.
• Supports the Instrument Area Engineers in optimising equipment availability, analysing plant breakdowns and recommending actions for improved performance.
• Assists in co-ordination of the engineering review and approval of plant modifications (Management of Change) and Process & Engineering Reviews (PERs).
• Participates and provides engineering input to equipment, environmental or safety related incident investigations. Leads incident investigations where appropriate (e.g. in area of functional expertise).
• Responsible for ensuring that own knowledge is captured effectively and transferred to and from others as appropriate.
• Responsibility for control of Major Accident Hazards as relevant to your post as described in the Control of Major Accidents and Hazards [COMAH] Establishment Report for Coryton Refinery [Section 5.1.1].

• Broad experience with instrument and control equipment maintenance.
• Proficient application of the principles related to Safety and Value enhancement (e.g. Process Safety Management, Operations Value Process and Capital Value Process)
• Proficient in the use of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) system to collate and analyse data.
• Ability to work closely within discipline specific and multifunctional teams recognising and balancing functional needs against area requirements.

Demonstrated competency as defined by the Coryton Professional Excellence competency map for Levels I - G.

Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications / Certifications
• Technical competence within instrument engineering discipline (Degree level qualification or comparable; Chartered status preferred).

Experience
Ten years relevant experience preferred, including at least five years within a petrochemical plant.
